Article 6 of the treaty that established the East African Community lays emphasis on peaceful co-existence and good neighborliness, peaceful settlement of disputes, mutual trust, good governance and democracy. Article 124 of the Treaty also underscores peace and security as pre-requisites to social and economic development within the Community and vital to the achievement of the objectives of the Community. These among others are prerequisites for socio-economic development and vital for the achievement of the Community’s objectives. In line with the above mentioned Articles, the EAC is committed to enhancing peace and security, governance and joint common foreign policy pursuits in order to promote regional integration and development.
