The Ministry of the East African Community (MEAC), was created as a Ministry in July 2004 from a department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The primary objective of the Ministry is to coordinate the affairs of the EAC as they relate to Kenya for the benefit of its citizens. The EAC is itself a regional Inter-governmental Organization comprising Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda Uganda and Tanzania which came into being on 30th November 2000 when the then three Partner States signed the Treaty for the Establishment of the EAC. Burundi and Rwanda joined the EAC in July 2007.
