Avast! Free Antivirus

The other day, I was looking at some of the Google search terms used by visitors to this site and noted one of them was "free antivirus for Uganda".
It is good to know there are quite a number of good, free antivirus programs for your PC and for EVERYONE
. Whereas you get good software, like Norton or McFee, several tests show there are some good free programs you can get, without having to part with some hard-earned bucks. One of these and my favorite is Avast! Free Antivirus offered by Avast.com. It is easy to install. You only need to make a free registration to get a license for one year, which you will be reminded to renew. Avast automatically checks for updates when you turn the PC on. It assumes you have an internet connection ...

Photofiltre Image Editor

Have you ever tried to send someone a picture, but got an error message, that it's too big, probably because it's several MBs and you did not know what to do?
Or you probably have a nice photo of you, but standing not far enough from someone you would prefer not to be in the picture? Simply select the bit you want to remain & "crop", etc, ... or you simply need to create a simple or edit an existing image for your Powerpoint presentation?
Photofiltre is a simple and easy to use image editor that can allow you to do that & much more. It is also "portable", meaning you can simply copy the installed program onto a flash drive /USB stick and be able to use it on any other Windows PC. You can use it to lighten up a picture, if it's a bit too dark & so on.
Publisher: "PhotoFiltre is a complete image retouching program. It allows you to do simple or advanced adjustments to an image and apply a vast range of filters on it. It is simple and intuitive to use, and has an easy learning curve. PhotoFiltre is free for personal and educational use. ..."

This is probably the best free, open source image editor around. It has a rather unusual user interface, but once you get used to it, you can do quite a lot.
Get it from http://www.gimp.org/downloads/. Download the windows installer unless you have Linux.
